What is polyaspartic?, It is a type of polyurea (an aliphatic polyurea actually).

Polyurea as a commercially used product that was developed in the 80s by Texaco Chemical Company (now called Huntsman Chemical). All polyurea products are two component systems, meaning that a resin has to be mixed with a catalyst to create the curing reaction that hardens the material similar to epoxy. Polyurea is used very successfully as a corrosion-resistant coating and repair material, although application is awkward since it has an extremely short pot life of about 3 seconds no joke, so the two components must be mixed at the point of a spray tip, requiring lots of maintenance on expensive high-pressure equipment.

Polyaspartic polyurea (or simply polyaspartics) overcomes many of the difficulties, while retaining the many advantages of polyurea product.

Bayer Material Science, data shows that polyaspartics are “based on the reaction of an aliphatic polyisocyanate and a polyaspartic ester, which is an aliphatic diamine for the techies. As for the average person polyaspartics exibits excellent resistance to corrosion, chemical penetration, and longer wear then any other concrete floor coating.

Polyaspartic and Epoxy coatings are both an effective and quick way to turn ordinary or problematic concrete flooring into easy to clean and highly functional and very durable concrete flooring.
